How did this happen?!? My 14 year old son...who is pretty smart anyway (geez, I sound like a parent)...is reading the AARP BULLETIN at the kitchen table....(I don't know how it got in the house. Some "old" person must have snuck it in.)....and he says, "Dad, the best way for us to save money is to eat our way to the bottom of the kitchen cupboards." Hey, not a bad idea... Peanut butter sandwichs for breakfast until they run out. Unfreeze all the stuff that is unrecognizable in the freezer. Do something creative with 5 cans of diced tomatoes. Be careful not to eat the D-batteries next to the frozen walnuts. Discover how Worcestershire, Heinz 57, and Less Sodium Teriyaki taste over buy 1 get 1 free generic pasta shells...and learn to snack on the Bread & Butter pickles that have been archiving themselves in the corner cupboard since grandma's last visit. It's a virtual smorgusboard (sp.) for the culinary adventurer in all of us...PLUS, we can, as my son said,  save some money [...]

Old Song - New Day

Wrote a song in 1985 called Throne Of Love. The premise is this: being willing to give your life for someone is a powerful way to show one's love. I mean, when was the last time you dove in front of a bus to move a senior citizen to safety? Or even your neighbor's poodle? Hey, I think I would, but I've never been tested. How about you? If in fact I did that, I feel pretty sure that Granny's grandkids and Penelope the Poodle's owner would be darn grateful! Probably brighten their day significantly. And, if by chance, I didn't make it out from under the wheels myself....well, my sacrifice would in some way, great or small, alter the lives of everyone who witnessed it, read about it in the paper, and stroked Penelope from here on out.
